Pigments is often added to polishes to get a tint or full colour to the lacquer base. However, not all pigments are suitable for use in laqcuers.

Too much pigment will affect the polish negatively: it might become lumpy, hard to apply, or affect the drying time. A good rule is to always use the minimum amount of pigment, and to always add a little at the time. Minimalizing the pigmentation in a polish usually leads to longer wear time and higher chipping resistance compared to a polish with a higher pigment load.
